I usually like Linwood Barclay's books. They are nicely plotted with an overtone of humour and when I see one I haven't read I will pick it up because I find him to be a safe pair of hands. When I found Find You First in my local library, I did just that.
The Blurb
Tech billionaire Miles has more money than he can ever spend, but he can’t buy more time. Diagnosed with a terminal illness, he is forced to take a long, hard look at his past.
Somewhere out there, Miles has children who don’t know it, but they might be about to inherit the good and bad from him – possibly his fortune, or possibly something more sinister.
So, Miles decides to track them down. But a lethal killer is one step ahead of him. One by one, people are vanishing. Not just disappearing, every trace of them is wiped.
The Review
The Premise of Find Your First is clever and the start is really intriguing. For me it is one of the best thrillers that I've read in a long time.
The story begins when a Billionaire, Miles, discovers that he has a terminal illness that he may have passed on to children he fathered by IVF. He then decides that to seek them out and leave his fortune to them along, possibly with the disease.
This decision means that his devoted assistant Dorrian and his brother will be overlooked from inheriting his wealth. Neither they, nor his sister-in-law or niece are willing to take this lying down.
However, Miles is not in possession of all the facts and is disturbed to find those he is seeking often disappear before he can reach them.
Two tales twist into one gripping story in Find You First. It's a full 5***** from me.
