The Catch by T.M. Logan

I must be honest, I had never heard of T. M. Logan and I bought The Catch when it was on sale, but I am very glad I did.

The Blurb

She says he's perfect. I know he's lying . . .

He caught me watching, and our eyes met. That was when it hit me.

There was something not quite right about my daughter's new boyfriend . . .

The doting father

Ed finally meets his daughter's boyfriend for the first time. Smart, successful and handsome, Ryan appears to be a real catch. Then Abbie announces their plan to get married.

The perfect fiancé

There's just one problem. Ed thinks Ryan is lying to them.

Who would you believe?

All of Ed's instincts tell him his daughter is in terrible danger - but no-one else can see it. With the wedding date approaching fast, Ed sets out to uncover Ryan's secrets, before it's too late . . .

The Review

Abbie has brought her boyfriend, Ryan, home to meet her family. Her mother and grandmother are enchanted, but her father, Ed is not convinced. He feels there is something not right about the tall, handsome, well-healed man who is quickly presented as his futrure son-in-law.

Ed devotes much of his time to trying to establish that his view is correct and to presuade his wife, Claire, that he is right. However, Claire and Abbie are both appalled by his behaviour and cannot see what his problem is with Ryan. Indeed, when Ed decides to follow Ryan, he ends up causing more trouble for himself than for Ryan.

Ed becomes estranged from Abbie and Claire becomes so irritated with him that she goes to stay with friends.

Left to his own devices, Ed continues to search into Ryan's past and makes a series of surprising discoveries. It is only when he finds himself walking in the countryside with Ryan that the full truth comes to light.

This is a taut, well written thriller that kept me rivetted from beginning to end. The hints and suggestions throughout the book make the reader veer from agreeing with Abbie and understanding Claire's point of view, to being completely onside with Ed. It is a cleverly contructed story that is a real page turner. I highly recommend The Catch and look forward to reading more books by T.M. Logan.
